World renowned New York City Gay Men’s Chorus are bringing their hugely successful Big Gay Sing to Dublin for one night only on Sunday June 15 2014. This spectacular all singing fundraiser for Marriage Equality will be hosted by Panti and promises to be the biggest, gayest, and most fabulous singing extravaganza ever seen on these shores!
It has just been announced that community choirs The Soulful and The Line-Up have been added to the bill for this all-singing spectacle. Based in Harold’s Cross and Stillorgan, both choirs were formed in 2012 and have approximately 50 singers in each group. Both choirs are conducted by Róisín Savage, and, though similar in style, each choir has their own unique sound. The Line-Up’s repertoire focuses on songs from the Rock and Pop genres and The Soulful focus on material from the Soul, R&B and Gospel traditions. Unlike most choirs, both groups do not audition for members and welcome both novice and experienced singers to the fold.

Some of The Soulful’s performances to date include the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in The Shelbourne Hotel and at Light Up A Life in Our Lady’s Hospice in the presence of President Michael D Higgins. At this year’s performance, rockabilly singer Imelda May joined the choir for an impromptu rendition of Silent Night. The group have also performed live on Ireland AM to raise awareness of the charity event, Stars, Choirs and Carols that took place in Croke Park in December.

Members of The Line-Up featured in the Meteor Christmas advertisement Let’s get Christmassy, which aired nationally on radio and television. The group has also performed live on The KC Show on Today FM and The John Murray Show on RTE Radio 1 and have even performed for the Six Nations Champions, the Irish Rugby Team on their winning return home from Paris in The Four Seasons Hotel in March.

Both The Line-Up and The Soulful stage their own concerts each year in various venues around Dublin including venues like The Sugar Club, Civic Theatre and the Button Factory and are currently in rehearsals for their upcoming performances in The Village this June.

Big Gay Sing Dublin: Club Night Out! will feature sing-a-long club classics from the 70s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. Guests are encouraged to get their disco glad rags on and dress for a club night out in the era of their choice.

Throughout the show, lyrics will be projected on a big screen above the chorus. Get ready to ‘follow the bouncing ball’ and sing along to hot club hits by Daft Punk, Carly Rae Jepsen, Pink and Rihanna, as well as cult classics by ABBA, Cher, Scissor Sisters, Gloria EstefanWhitney Houston and many more!

The Big Gay Sing promises to be a campy fun evening that encourages everyone to channel their inner disco queen!

“The Big Gay Sing is a glitter-filled opportunity for all our friends to have a spectacular night out while supporting the Marriage Equality Referendum campaign. We’re chuffed with the selfless generosity of our friends the Gloria DLGC who’ve facilitated this sing-a-long fundraiser’.
